New DOT government regulations!

NATIONWIDE--JANUARY 26, 2012-- Today, new government regulations went into effect requiring all airlines and travel companies to include taxes and fees in published airfare. This makes pricing more transparent for consumers.

When we tell you about fare deals from airlines or online travel agents, now we are also including these taxes, so prices will initially appear to be higher. But we're still finding great prices, including some of the best fares we've seen in months.

For instance, here are sample fares from the USA to former ex- YU destinations, available over the next two months. Fares are net and include all taxes, fuel surcharges & security/service fees.

New York-Skopje: $473 + $93.70 taxes + $349.50 YQ
fuel & service charges = $916.20 total
New York-Sarajevo: $473 + $107.66 taxes + $349.50 YQ
fuel & service charges = $930.16 total
Chicago–Zagreb: $290 + $130.16 taxes + $526.00 YQ
fuel & service charges = $946.16 total
Los Angeles-Belgrade: $373 + $150.96 taxes + $526.00 YQ
fuel & service charges = $1049.96 total
Los Angeles-Podgorica: $398 + $197.54 taxes + &574.48 YQ
fuel & service charges = $1174.02 total

WARNING! There have been recent cases of some agencies selling cheaper overseas tickets by issuing them on select US airlines rather than on carriers that are actually being used – thus avoiding YQ fuel surcharges. The DOT and foreign carriers are increasingly checking tickets at the airports – and demanding payment of the difference on the spot, or denying boarding altogether. Cheaper is better – but cheating is fraud! Be careful…
